Construction of upper floors of Apartment house 72 Bruninieku street, Riga
BackHistory of the building
The design of both the street and yard stone houses dates back to 20 July 1910, and was ordered to architect Oskars Bārs (1848-1914) by Voldemārs Niedra or Nidra (B. Ниьдра).
The design included the layout of both houses and the street house facade created in national romanticism style. On the other hand, the smoothly finished facade of the yard house without decorations expresses laconic restraint, the apartments in this building are small, mostly one-room with a separate kitchen.
The new design
It is planned to reconstruct the yard house according to a modern layout, by constructing a new two-storey volume on floor 6 and 7. The volume of the extension and its architecture fit perfectly into the existing urban environment, as the exterior design of the building and the rationally simple division of the facade and finishing materials that are characteristic of yard houses are preserved.
The facade of the far side of the yard house will have larger window openings and balconies, which will allow to use most advantages of the south side and a great view on the city will open up from the upper floors. The new part of the facade will be separated from the old one by a decorative eave.
The total space of the above-ground floors according to the reconstruction design – 1201 m2
The total space of the designed floors (floors 6 and 7) – 325 m2
